[EventCalendar] Events disappear upon login

I have a page that has the event calendar and the Upcoming events  
widget in the sidebar.

These work fine as long as the user doesn't log in. When a user logs  
in, all of the events disappear and the "No Events" appears in the  
Upcoming Events widget. Events disappear even when logged in as the  
Admin account.

I've tried all sorts of things and nothing seems to work (short of  
cracking open the code). Any ideas?
