[EventCalendar] events category, listed by event date, not post date

My apologies in advance if that has already been covered...
I'm curious if there is a way to list the posts in the "Events" category by
the date of the event, rather than the post date. I know how to create a
custom template page for the Events category only; just need help getting a
handle on sorting by that event date (as opposed to post date).
