[EventCalendar] Events Category Link gets Page Not Found

Added new category 'temp'
Edited posts in events to move them to the new temp category
Deleted the old 'events' category
Deactivated the Events Calendar plugin
Added new category 'events'.
Activated the Events Calendar plugin

New cat does not show in sidebar (maybe 'cause no posts in it yet).
New cat 'temp' shows in sidebar with (2) next to it: temp (2)
Clicking link to temp results in a page not found error. This can be fixed
by once again deactivating the Events Calendar plugin.
Note that this is without the former events posts being assigned to the
events category?!
