[EventCalendar] SQL syntax error for MySQL server version 4.0.20-standard

Hello,

I've installed Event Calendar v3.1.1 Release Candidate 1. We are using
WordPress 2.1.3.  I clicked on the Events category in our blog and got the
following message at the top of the window.

WordPress database error: [You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the
manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for
the right syntax to use near 'DESC,'%Y-%m-%d') DESC,

My ISP says "...it is not that there is an error in the database, but that
the events feature software you are using has some compatibility problem
with the SQL version of your database. You are using MySQL 4.0.20-standard.

You will need to re-write the Events Calendar plug in to match the specific
SQL command syntax (how the command is formatted) to match MySQL
4.0.20-standard's syntax for that command."

This is out of my realm of capability. Do you have a rewrite to fix this?
