[EventCalendar] Alternatives to the_content filter?

That's what I thought. I hadn't tried it yet.
So really all that is needed is an option to disable the filter and
some documentation. A user can then have the "easy" way by using the
filter, or by doing their own work in the theme. I'm sure some folks
have to do that anyway to set up ec3, so adding the function with the
special format options shouldn't be a stretch.
They probably need to know that this is only going to work where they
put the function if they turn off the filter. Which would actually be
cool since you could then have the Post schedule on your home page,
but not in your archives.
I did notice that ec3_the_schedule() doesn't accept the $format_...
strings that get passed to ec3_get_schedule(). That would add display
configuration options to the theme function.
