I had just the same problem a few hours ago. I used pre11 and pre14 or so, and i tried to upgrade to RC4. But when i tried to post an event, the system didn't save it... also the event category checkbox was not grayed-out. the posting apeared in the category, but not in the calendar...
maybe the db-tabled didn't get the upgrade? i am not sure.

I solved the Problem in creating a new category for the events. later i renamed it to the old one...
