'home' is one of the URIs that you set on the Options->General Options screen. It's the "Blog address".
I was browbeaten into changing around the way I uses these two values a year or so ago. I'm pretty sure it's right now. If you are having problems, then you've probably set up your options incorrectly.
Your "Blog address" should be the main address. So this should show post #1:
<blog address>/?p=1
Your "Wordpress address" should point to the place where all the wordpress files are installed, so this should show you a gif:
<wordpress address>/wp-content/plugins/eventcalendar3/wait.gif
If you're still having problem after you've checked those things, then send me a link and I'll look at it. I think this whole issue was done to death about a year ago. Have you tried searching the list archive? You can use Google with "site:penguin.firetree.net".
